About National Novel Writing Month
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
In 2009, 167,150 participants signed-up and 32,178 crossed the finish line! The number of words officially logged during the 2009 event topped two billion: 2,427,190,537!
