Library Electronic Resources Help Guide

This guide serves as a resource for troubleshooting access to Oakton Library's electronic resources.

First steps for troubleshooting access

If you have trouble accessing an Oakton Library electronic resource, try clearing your cache (also known as browsing history) first. This is a common issue with e-resources, and clearing your browsing history often fixes it. If this does not fix the issue, please use the form at the bottom of this page to report the issue to the library's Electronic Resources staff.

Instructions to clear your cache according to browser type are located below:

Google Chrome

  1. Open the tools menu (three dots in the upper right corner)
  2. Open More tools and choose Clear Browsing History
  3. On the Basic tab, change the Time range dropdown to All time
  4. Check the Cookies and other site data and Cached image and files boxes
  5. Click Clear data

Firefox

  1. Open the tools menu (three lines in the upper right corner)
  2. Click History to open the menu and click Clear recent history
  3. Set the Time range to clear dropdown to Everything
  4. Select the Cookies, Cache, Active logins, Site settings, and Offline website data boxes
  5. Click Clear Now

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the tools menu (three dots in the upper right corner)
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Privacy, search, and services on the left side menu
  4. Scroll down to Clear browsing data and click the Choose what to clear button next to Clear browsing data now
  5. Change the Time range dropdown to All time
  6. Select the Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files boxes
  7. Click Clear now
