Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly developing technology. AI tools--like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and others--are a new way for us to interact with information. Like all information resources, AI tools require knowledge about their best use, limitations, and accuracy in order for us to use them effectively. It is important for us to familiarize ourselves with these tools so that we can know where their application is relevant and supportive in an academic setting.
This guide is intended to help you critically engage with AI tools. It approaches AI from an information literacy perspective. Students, before using AI to complete any aspect of course assignments, be sure to check with your instructor, and always correctly cite any content produced by AI in your work.
