Citations? How the Library can help

The Library provides detailed citation guidance in the “Cite It Right!” guide.

Most Oakton Library databases now include their own citation generating tools. After finding an article in a database, locate and copy its APA style citation directly into your References (APA) or Noodle Tools project.

Oakton subscribes to citation management software called NoodleTools. You can register and create a personal account, allowing you to save your sources and export your sources to Word or Google Docs in the proper format. The brief videos below explain how to use NoodleTools.

NoodleTools is a full featured citation manager that will help you format and save your citations online.

  1. When you connect to Noodletools with the link provided below, you will be prompted for your Oakton username and password (same as used for D2L and MyOakton).

  2. Your next step depends on whether you are a returning user or a new user:

Returning user: If you have already registered a Personal ID and Password for NoodleTools, you can Sign In.

New user: If you are a new NoodleTools user, select the "Don't have an account? Register" button to register a Personal ID and Password of your choice (It's easier to remember your NoodleTools ID if you use your myOakton user name).

NoodleTools is great for creating citations from scratch, but if you already have a citation from a database, you can easily add it to NoodleTools as well. This example uses MLA, but the process is the same for APA. Click on the square on the bottom right for "Full Screen" to access a larger version of this video.
