This collection was made possible by a “Healing Illinois” grant by the IL Department of Human Services: IDHS: HEALING ILLINOIS: Building a bridge to a racially equitable Illinois (state.il.us) with matching funds from Oakton's library in 2020-2021. The purpose of the grant is to increase knowledge of marginalized groups and educate against racism. The focus of the collection is Black American and African-American history as well as Black Linguistic Justice.
Books related to Black Studies have been added to the list as the library collects them. Black Studies is interdisciplinary and as such, additional books are added through library funds dedicated to a variety of disciplines taught at Oakton.
