Welcome to the Library!

I'm Rebecca Sedam, your SOC 101 guide to learning about research and library resources at Oakton.

This Library research guide for Yasmin Cordero's SOC 101 class offers

  • introductory tips & tutorials for kickstarting your research,
  • a tab for our popular "Ask a Librarian" online reference service.

Check back often; this guide will evolve and expand in response to your SOC 101 information and research needs.

To get help with your research project, make a research consultation appointment with a librarian. Let's get started!

Important information about research consultations

Your SOC 101-EC1 course takes place during Oakton’s summer interim session. There are a couple of ways that you can make an appointment:

  1. Schedule an online research consultation with my excellent colleague Sylvia Rosillo, the librarian offering research help during the library's regular summer interim hours. Sylvia's hours are 9am – 5pm, Monday – Thursday.
    -- AND / OR --
  2. Schedule an evening appointment with me, Rebecca Sedam at this special appointment form

Please note: My hours are significantly reduced during interim. Check the special appointment form for new spots or email me at rsedam@oakton.edu.
