LibApps Directions for Library Staff

Support Oakton teaching and learning by making the most of the Library's LibGuides & LibAnswers platforms!

Overview

What is a profile box?
Each LibApps user account holder has their own profile box, which they can customize to display details like their name, profile image, and contact info. This not only lets our patrons know who created a page, but also how to get in touch with them. Pages can include multiple profile boxes, too, which might be useful -- albeit potentially crowded-looking -- if you are collaborating on a guide.

What kind of resources do you need?

To carry out these activities, you need a LibApps user account with access to LibGuides. All Oakton Librarians have this kind of LibApps account.

Description of activities

Navigate the LibGuides dashboard; locate and display the My Profile editing options for the Profile Box.

Update your profile picture.

Add the chat widget to your profile box.

Add an email button to your profile box.

    • To use the default placeholder image, select Do not display a profile image.
    • To change your profile image, select Upload a new profile image and select the image you want to use.
  • Avoid full-sized or uncompressed images.
  • For best results, Springshare recommends using PNG or JPG images with a maximum width of 200px and maximum height of 140px.
  • Your changes will save automatically.

Add the chat widget to your profile box

NOTE: To avoid skewing usage data and "fragmenting" our online reference services with multiple queues, this widget code does not direct users to you specifically. This allows the chat button to remain active & open for business as long as a librarian is signed in and monitoring the chat queue.
