Free COVID-19 tests for employees and students now available
Free, optional COVID-19 testing is now available to employees and students at no cost to them at the Des Plaines campus. Oakton is partnering with Shield Illinois to administer the tests.
Summer testing hours (subject to change):
Des Plaines Campus
Mondays and Thursdays
8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
(Studio One Theater)
Use Door 10 (near gymnasium) via Lot A
Information on test availability at the Skokie campus will be forthcoming.
Before testing, employees and students must register in the Shield Illinois portal (see scheduling instructions link above). Results of the saliva-based tests will be available in the Shield Illinois portal within 24 hours. Students and employees must sign a waiver before each test, allowing results to be shared with appropriate college staff for contact tracing.
*Note: Even though there are additional appointment times listed in the portal, please only schedule tests during the hours listed above.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Key Things to Know About COVID-19 Vaccines), we are still learning how well vaccines prevent the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, even if you are vaccinated, we encourage you to get tested if you are experiencing symptoms or have had close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
